1982 Yamaha Virago Xv750 Oil Troubles?
Okay...i have put a new oil level indicator on it (bought from ebay, taken from a working bike so it works...probably) oil is at the proper level according to the viewing screen on the side of the bike. but still refuses to turn over when the starter button is pushed and the oil level light come on solid whenever the button is pressed. what do i need to do?should i drain the oil and remove the lines and blow through them to see if they 're clogged? what do i do if that doesn 't work? p.s. - someone told me to test my starter... i bench tested it and my starter is fine. Was he serious or was he just saying that to wind me up seen as i said how much i love the bike? thank goodness i haven 't bought one yet which i was going to do today, would it be wrong if i did?come on, is the yamaha virago 535 seriously designed for women, is it a women 's bike? please, please don 't tell me that 's true... he 's gotta be kidding... right?oh god nooooo! i 'm in a right muddle now.... but i realllly do like this bike. even if this dream shattering news has some truth to it, would it be wrong for me to ride one? would everyone know its women 's bike i 'm riding?do many blokes ride them or is it mostly women who ride these?i 'm trying to think of a car that 's designed for women to imagine how a bloke would look behind the wheel and try to draw some comparison from it. lets see, let me imagine...a bloke driving a convertible yellow peugeot, or how about one of the new style vw beetle 's with flowers on the side or even an old pink convertible ford escort.. lol..that 's without any doubt 100% designed for women. but i just can 't make the same mental connection when its a yamaha virago cruiser style bike in matt black with shiny chrome and a nice fat back wheel. to me this shouts masculine.okay okay, i give up, if for some obscure reason it was actually designed for women to ride, would a bloke look silly riding it? a motorbikes supposed to extend a mans penis, and make him appear even more masculine and manly but if the virago will only end up giving me breast i guess i 'll have to pick another testosterone pr machine. boo hoo!please, please tell me that that dude was just winding me up and the virago is perfect for the average mans mid-life crisis. if that dude was right, what bike would you recommend instead that 's a cruiser style within the same price range and made for men. I checked the parker 's motorcycle price guide and they advise about a grand for a model from the late 90 's. I have a 95 virago 250 cal. model. is there any way to get rid of the fuel pump and add a vertical carb instead of the stock. make the bike not regulated by california emission laws. any info about the bike would be appreciated. thankshow would this be done and how much would it cost?i got this bike to learn to ride on, and drive to high school. Need Help With A Electrical Fault On Yamaha Virago Xv 535 1995?
So i brought this bike recently and i discovered the bike will not charge i believe its the regulator/ rectifier. all i want to know is how long do they last i have looked on ebay to see how many have been sold i saw 1 user sold 95 another sold 40 so i know they go wrong after sometime so i was wondering it anyone else out there who has a 535 can tell me how long they last. my bike had one put on in 2008 nearly 4 years ago so is it time for a new or do they last longer and its something else wrong with my bike.cheersi hope to hear from someone soon bryan (Read answers)

My 1995 Yamaha Virago Has Electrical Problems And I Really Need Some Help?
I have just brought a 535 virago it was going lovely i pulled into a petrol station just to fill her up and i was having problems with getting it into neutral so i gave up and just left it in gear when i came out i rolled the bike forwards at then i realized it was already in neutral but the neutral light was not working i thought it might have been a dodgy connection but then the bike would not start it turned over once at it struggled so i had to get some people to push me to bump start it that worked i got all the way home i switched her off tried to start it again nothing dead so i put a charger on and it was very low the bike is not charging it so that 's another fault i need to fix i left it a while i went back out still dead nothing i went back in then i remembered i left the key in so i went back out to get it then i thought lets try one more time i turned the key the neutral came on i pressed start and she fired up perfect i turned it off and on a few times it keeps starting but when will it come back i cant have a bike that could go rong at anytime on me once i sorted the charging and this neutral light problem she will be a good little bike but this is where i need your help i need some idears remember i only got this bike literally hours ago thank you for reading bryan (Read answers)
I Am Still Having Problems With My 1982 Yamaha Virago Xv750?
Okay so...i just bought a new starter and the bike has run after i installed it.i removed and cleaned the carbs, although i am not sure i reinstalled them correctly...i tried jumping the bike off a car so it isn 't a weak battery.other infofront cylinder - has strong spark, the sparkplug was wet with gas when i removed it and blackened. compression at 99psi. when i removed the spark plug to check for spark the bike ran weakly for a few seconds.rear cylinder - has weak spark, spark plug blackened but dry.compression at 90 psi.manual says psi should be at a minimum of 128 psi. but does not say what to do about low compression.is compression my only problem in getting the bike started?could the sparkplugs be my problem?how do i fix low compression? is low compression caused my improperly replacing my carbs?i 'm new at this and i 'm just trying to follow a manual... be specific please. If the engine starts, it idles very low (if not stalls). i don 't think the carburetor is mixing enough air because the exhaust smells like gasoline. one muffler is running cold as well. (Read answers)

First off, i know we 're idiots.my bike has been having trouble starting all spring. so we thought that it was because my carbs need cleaned. so me and my buddy removed the carbs from my bike and cleaned them throughly using the manual for the bike and a full rebuild kit. we put the carbs back in yesterday and...there are 2 hoses where there is no nozzle to attach them too... and it still won 't start. so when i try to turn the bike over i put my fingers over the air intake and it seemed to be blowing air rather than sucking air in. i have no idea what we 've done here.p.s.i know we 're idiots, i got that. i don 't need to be told, i just need some help. Yamaha Virago Xv750 Intake Boots?
A very nice guy gave me a yamaha virago for a sand rail project. yes, you guys don 't need to tell me that a v-twin isn 't the best for one, i 'm asking a question about the intake boots. there is a leak in the intake boots (assuming where they bolt onto the motor)... i literally cannot get them off. i got the bolt on the front side of it (closest to me) but the backside bolt on the other side is literally impossible to get to(because the frame is in the way)! does anyone have any advice for getting that backside bolt off without pulling the motor? i 'd appreciate your help. i 'm only 16, i think just this little thing is a great project. but out of all the things that could go wrong . . why this! but hey, it 's a great opportunity to lear more from it, i 'm just not ready to pull the motor yet. if that 's the case though, i might end up taking it to a dealer and having them do it, hopefully without burning a hole in my "non-income ". Am I Tall Enough To Ride A "yamaha Virago 535" If It Has Straight Handle Bars?
I think i 'm about 5ft 6 " or 5ft 7 " tall myself. my legs are average length and i guess my arms are quite longish. also, i 've got a slim to average build. so, do you think a yamaha virago 535 would be okay for someone my size if it has straight handle-bars rather than the original curved inward handle-bars. or is it sadly too big for me where i 'd probably have to bend my back to reach the steering rather than sit up straight.i really hope so because i absolutely love this bike, especially with the straight bars.will: thanks, that 's good to know about the size but your like me, i 'm just not sure about the straight bars and if this will mean i 'm leaning forward which wouldn 't be very comfortable.in regards to the original handle-bars, yes, your right, they did originally come with curved handle-bars which would almost touch the fuel tank when the steering was fully locked. this meant even a really short person could ride it comfortably. however, with the straight bars, the rider now has to stretch out the full length of the fuel tank and a riders shoulder height and arm length becomes an important issue.oh yes, btw, if you have a look at some of these virago 's online, you 'll see that quite a lot of them now have straight bars. its probably the most common bike feature that virago riders customise as well as sissy bars and side luggage. maybe the reason for this is because, as you point out, its only a small bike and maybe its standard curved bars make it far too small for most average height people so they add the straight bars. i 'd say that most of the virago 's i 've seen online have had these straight bars fitted which means its probably unlikely that this change is due the bikes been dropped some time in the past. although, to be honest, i hadn 't thought of that so thanks for pointing it out because there 's bound to be some out there who have made this change for that reason so now i can bare this in mind when i view or buy one. cheers.also, to anyone who 's wondering... i absolutely love the look of these yamaha virago 's even though i 've never actually ever seen one in the flesh. i 've seen hundreds of them online buts its near on impossible to judge if i 'm the right size for the bike in images. i guess i should go out of my way to view one if i 'm going to continue being obsessed by the bike and looking for one to buy. even though i very much doubt my opinion will change after seeing one, you never know, i might have a completely wrong impression of the bike from these images. could be like a mini-moto in real life... loltwisted_ace: wtf....are you serious? the virago is designed for women? please don 't tell me that... you gotta be kidding... right?oh nooooo.... but i realllly like this bike. would it be wrong for me to ride one? would everyone know its women 's bike?
